Islands to visit
Chatham is owned by the forest department of Andaman island. It has Asia’s biggest and oldest saw mill, Chatham Saw mill is situated at Chatham Island and is a popular tourist destination.
The mill was set up by British in the year 1883. It is now owned by government of India. Inside is the forest museum, which displays locally grown woods, including padauk, and has displays on the history of timber milling on the island.
The Mill is loaded with timber of different sizes which it supplies to private owners and government agencies at reasonable prices.
